While there will be jobs, I don't think they will be in the DC area.

It's a great school with a great reputation + it's in Golden which is quite nice-- proximity to Denver, mountains, nice, quaint downtown, etc. Any connections you DS makes in college, will be useful because he will probably want to stay on in Colorado.

I would encourage my kid to study what they want -- as long as there is a path to a career. But, I would suggest taking a strong look at VT, which also has some strong programs. And one of the top geology Septs in the country

It is a great school with regular engineering majors. Feels like a liberal arts college.

Sure, they are stupendous at mining engineering, but it isn’t a one-major place.

CSM is a national top-100 engineering, resources, and economics school. It's a solid program with a solid label. Quit panicking.

Colorado School oF Mines is excellent in a number of different engineering fields. I would definitely let a kid at least look at it.

(First, his choice, obviously.) Second, why not. Third, Mines offers a lot more than just mining engineering https://www.mines.edu/academics/

"Let"? He's an adult. Cut the apron strings, land the helicopter.
