OP: I have never heard of anything like this. Don't divorces usually occur because a couple discusses splitting, both hire lawyers, and one files the papers. If it is this batcrazy now, my concern is a drawn out fight will result in both of us having no money and the lawyers laughing to the bank.
If people both mutually want to divorce then that conversation would take place beforehand but when the divorce is being driven by one person, that conversation often takes place after one person has taken action. Filing the paperwork is a start. Then your spouse knows you actually do want a divorce and you plan to make that happen and at that point, they may engage more. If for 3 years you say you are going to lose weight but you never diet or exercise and never lose a pound, no one is going to take you too seriously.
