+1. Both my kids get red eczema cheeks if they (or I) unintentionally eat something they're allergic/sensitive to.

And +1 to everything you've heard already- lukewarm baths without soap, immediately put on cereve and aquaphor over that, hydrocortisone for flare-ups (not every day).

Aquaphor or Vanicream have been the best for us. Everything else stung.
Topical steroids
No soap, change laundry detergent and extra wash
Remove dairy or other potential allergens
Word of advice: do not let people kiss her/him particularly if someone is prone to cold sores (herpes). My baby contracted eczema herpeticum that way and it's been a horrible experience (it never really goes away).

OTC hydrocortisone for flare ups and CeraVe eczema creamy oil in between worked for us. We tried just about everything else. There were other creams that worked but they stung.

My baby had red cheeks too, and it turned out that his eczema was due to food allergies.

Hydrocortisone works on the flare ups.

Aquaphor ointment works well to protect the skin. I still put it on my baby’s cheeks and all over after baths.

Once the skin is clear you can transition to something like aveeno lotion for maintenance.

Also, I rarely use soap. My baby’s eczema improved a lot after I started with epsom salt baths. I only use baby shampoo on his hair as needed. Regular baths are just water and a cup of Epsom salts.

If you take the medicine route, ask about Eucrisa. It’s non-steroidal and seems to be relatively gentle.

The only thing that helped my baby's eczema was prescription strength hydrocortisone. 2.5% Nothing else helped and it was advised by our pediatrician not to limit foods, unless there was a significant reaction.

After buying every soap, ointment and creme available over the counter. I saw a pediatric dermatologist and as a last resort tried hydrocortisone. Eczema was gone in a week and I only used it for flare ups after that.

When my son was a baby he had terrible eczema and sometimes his face would bleed into the sheets. His pediatrician told me to try a brand of soap. I remember went to the old pharmacy on MacArthur Blvd to get that soap. It was like a miracle soap, within a week his face was baby soft again. I've been trying to remember the name of that soap for a friend's grandson but that was more than 20 years ago. It sounded like foster's or something, maybe somebody else would remember.

Anyway, I googled for her, and found this article that sounded like my son's case. The soap used in the story was from Australia.

This is from a pediatric dematologist. Avoid soap or use only ceravae. While skin is still wet use Ceravae lotion (the mind in the tub) . Apply the cream at least 2x per day.

Limit dairy intake if you’re feeding solids and limit your intake if breastfeeding

Aveeno baby eczema or eucerin cream is a godsend.
Mittens if he’s scratching a lot.

Call your pediatrician to see what their usual answer is!

Baby has bad eczema on his cheeks, sometimes it looking like it’s blistering.

He’s only 5 months. What would you suggest? Am I able to get something prescribed?

Also, what did you do to reduce eczema? I have changed the detergent to scent free.
