Econ is the major of choice for the B school wannabes at liberal arts colleges and ivies.

Williams does have the political economy major which may be a fit for someone looking to get into econ-related public policy.

I did major in Econ at Williams and went into finance. This was 20 years ago, but at the time I’d say about 50% did finance/consulting and the rest did grad school, public policy, etc. More of my friends who majored in political science or history ended up in public policy. There def was no pressure to go in one direction; I think she would be pleasantly challenged while there & come out well-prepared. I actually went there thinking I wanted to do public policy and got a great summer internship after freshman year and realized that wasn’t what I wanted. I decided to try a wall st internship the following summer & loved it

OK thanks. DC is more interested in getting into the public policy realm of economics and is not at all interested in finance/Wall Street/corporation type work but wonders if he/she would be surrounded by those who aspire to that.

Most financial firms aspire to hire machine learning/CS quants who understand economics

At least when I was there 12 years ago this was a popular double major combination. (Williams doesn't have minors so we were all idiots and double majored.)
