I was off work (politics) as of November for a feb due date and didn't want to jinx myself and have everything done early only to go to 42 weeks, so I left everything for the last three weeks. Would have been fine except my water broke at 37 weeks and nothing was done

Yup. And those of us who aren't ready don't talk about it because the on the ball types can't believe it and get scoldy. "When are you going to decorate the nursery?" "What nursery? Babies are small, he'll fit in that corner." SHOCK.

Plus baby often isn’t in the nursery for months (or years for some of us). It was great to have things in there for storing but we barely used the nursery the first year.

I adopted with 3 days notice and it all worked out!

With #1, I got everything finished on a Saturday and he arrived on Tuesday (2 weeks early). With #2, I was still having people pull things out of storage after she arrived.

Yep. Mine were even earlier and we had literally nothing. They were in the NICU which would have given us some time to get home ready but I was too freaked out to buy anything. Then, one day the docs were like ... babies go home day after tomorrow! We went out and did one big shop which was just fine. They never didn't have something we really needed (and everything can be ordered from Amazon in a pinch)

I have three weeks before my scheduled induction for number 3 and I’m so behind! Too many other things to do on the weekends with the first two and I work full time. I’m taking a few days before the induction off to get everything together.

I actually had the reverse! The hospital sent us home with a car seat and lots of premie clothes. We had to figure out the bottles and formula.

For the first baby, about a month before she was due.

For the second, MUCH earlier.

It was perfectly fine. Don't stress out over this ridiculous notion that everything has to be ready.

I was with #1! I was going to start maternity leave ten days/one work week before due date and deal with it all then, but my water broke after i got home from work that last day and i was just like "damn it, I don't even get ONE day?" Fortunately did borrow a car seat in time though.

My jaded take is that people go way over the top, and I wonder if the recdnt AAP rec to have the baby in your bedroom for so long will get people to tone it down doe the first year.

As far as having baby items purchased, organized, washed/prepped, how far before your due date were you "ready" for baby? I thought, as this is baby #2, I'd feel less anxious, but so far at 34 weeks, it's becoming a bit overwhelming. I know we just need to have the car seat so hopefully that'll be scratched off the list in the next week or so ? Anyone else as behind as I am?
