Wait. You mean I’m not entitled to everything I think is the best available?

Duh.
Most of my friends and acquaintances have done this. The ones who haven't are the odd ones.

We left DCPS for MCPS. We couldn’t be happier. We moved upcounty and DH commutes to Baltimore for work. I work in Downtown Silver Spring. Make the best move possible for you and your family.

We chose Takoma Park because it seemed to offer a nice balance of academic opportunity, diversity, community and affordability, but house prices seem to have skyrocketed.

Same here. Wouldn't do it differently if I had to to do it again (including the choice of BCC.)

Yes, wouldn’t change a thing. ~ WJ parent

Make sure that better academic clusters are not going to turn upside down with new boundaries before you make a costly move.

WJ is not going to look same. Wootton will look a lot different as well after new boundaries.

Moved to a W neighborhood for a bigger house (rather than building an addition on our first home where schools were not as good + paying for private school).

We moved from DCPS to MCPS for this reason, but to BCC rather than a W School because we value walkability and proximity to metro/restaurants/shops. Very happy with our decision.

Just wondering how many readers have moved to be in a "better" cluster (like a W school for example), and have had to sacrifice a nicer house or property and live in a smaller house/property to do so? Did you also have to adjust commuting to work time? Did you think it was ultimately worthwhile for your kids?
