I’m always extra careful going down the basement stairs when he’s away… Which made me feel paranoid until reading this conversation.

Get on a lot of mailing lists. Letter carriers often alert police when people haven't picked up their mail in days.

How awful! I used to fear this when my kid was younger as I don't have any family here. Now that he's older, we have a contingency plan if mom is not OK. He knows how to unlock my phone, to call 911 and a friend. But I cannot imagine this working with anyone under 5.

Snug only gives you 10 minutes to respond after they contact you. I wish they gave more. I often don't see my texts for 10 minutes or more because I have a toddler. Not because anything is wrong.

I have a friend whose husband travels a lot for work and they live in a somewhat remote location—big wooded lots and neighbors weren’t friendly. I remember when our oldest kids were toddlers she mentioned one time that she had a cupboard of food where her DD could reach it in case something happened to her. That was when texting was pretty novel and FB wasn’t a thing yet.

MoCo has a system that calls single elderly people every day. If they don't pick up, they send a wellness check for then. I'm not sure if they would exclude non seniors.

Can you make an arrangement with your boss or with your child care provider that if you don't show up and they can't reach you, they would send a wellness check?

I am a single mom with a toddler. A single mom acquaintance of mine died in her sleep of a heart problem recently, and her child spent several days alone with her mom's body in their apartment before anyone realized that they were missing. Lots of people had emailed, texted, or called to say, "Are you guys ok?" but then no one followed up when they didn't hear back, until eventually her employer asked the super at her condo building to unlock her door and check on her. It's a horrifying thought for a single mom. Is there an app where you check in every day, and if you don't check in, it sends an alert to people you've pre-set and lets them know they need to check on you? I have Googled, but I can't find an app like this. It seems like it should exist.
