I look underdressed no matter what I wear because of my middle aged body

An interesting corollary question would be what is your ethnicity and HHI/net worth.

My suspicion is that white rich people would rather be under dressed than over. They don’t like to show their hand (I.e. show that they care).

Overdressed, although I'd feel uncomfortable if I was in a ball gown at a casual event. But normally if I am overdressed it is just a little bit, and that's totally fine with me. I like wearing dresses so am often a touch overdressed.

Overdressed, for sure. I feel more confident when I look nicer. I was thinking of this the other day--I ran into 3 people at the grocery store, and one was a superior from work, and one was my child's pediatrician. So these were "business-y" hellos and greetings. I was glad I looked nice and felt confident in that moment.

Under for sure

Over is embarrassing

It shows you care too much what other people think.

But overdressed often does not look "better," just foppish.

Underdressed, I think. I once went to an event and was so overdressed I felt compelled to lie and say I had another event after (and then I had to leave early). But too underdressed is bad too. Mastering the in between is an art around here.

I'd rather be underdressed. Whole "well F-you elites" attitude comes off better when you're a little on the grungy side.

Under for sure

Over = tring too hard

Better to look like you don’t care

I'm European and think I am always appropriately dressed, but then I see Americans going to the opera in jeans and T-shirts and feel like an alien.

Overdressed, but not like suit or ball gowns, just something really luxurious that I’m perceived and taken seriously by people who don’t know me. I get better service if I’m dressed well. I’m ignored when I’m underdressed.

Overdressed if I had to choose. And I’m not an overdresser normally. In the US any more you have to try pretty hard to underdress.

I feel like a lot of DCUM fashion spars are between people who'd rather be overdressed and people who'd rather be underdressed. Which are you?

I would rather be underdressed. Obviously I'd rather be appropriately dressed but if I had to choose one or the other, underdressed 100%.
