The perspective is very different in the coastal U.S.. Girls do better in school, behave better, and are less likely to have ADHD or autism.

I married into an old Southern family of English descent and it's desirable to have boys to "carry on the family name."

I'm a parent with one girl and I would like to have at least one boy for this reason

Its always been that way.

1. People make small talk. It’s somethig to say kostxpeopke consider harmless. I say lots of babies are cute when they are not cute. I say names are great when they are not at all great. I would probably say something like “oh gorlsnare so sweet” even though I have 2 boys and only ever wanted boys.

2. You have a boy, now you have one of each. Some people think that is special and desired. If you have 2 or more of the same gender, people will pester you whether you will “keep trying”.

l am surprised that l have received many comments from friends/strangers when they see or find out l have a newborn baby girl. For example, I wish l have a girl/What did u do to get a girl/Lucky you/Aww...u have a girl etc. I did not recall that I get those comments other than "congratulation" with my first born son. My 3 year old son has been so nervous (nightmare, hiding under table, sitting in a corner looking at me when I hold baby) already with his new sister, and all other people comments regarding new baby sister just further increase his anxieties/insecurities. She gets all the attention, and I feel awkward to all comments other than saying thank you to everyone. So, baby girl is more desired among women these days, huh?
