Hello DC Moms and Dads,
My name is Frank and I am the Head of School at the Chelsea School in Hyattsville. Chelsea is a school that serves students with language-based learning disabilities and ADHD in a college-preparatory setting in grades 5-12. Our school has been around for over 40 years, but we have only been in Hyattsville for the last 5. I started as a teacher at Chelsea 15 years ago, and I feel very lucky to come to work with people who I love every day.
I wanted to let this community know about an event that we have every year - our Walk-a-thon for Learning Differences. This event is an effort on our part to show the community what learning differences, dyslexia, and ADHD look like. Our kids are very proud to take part in this event, which is something that we encourage at our school. At Chelsea, learning differences are not taboo. Our kids can talk about their challenges and their strength in a way that is empowering.
If you are the parent of a child with a learning difference, I would encourage you to come to this event. We'll be walking from the school to Hyattsville MS at 9:00 am, then marching in the Hyattsville parade at 11 am, and finishing up at the Hyattsville Festival in Magruder Park.
