But I'm afraid that modern primaries, on both sides, are doing the opposite. They reward extremes, and drive polarization.

I think BOTH parties need to look to more centrist candidates. We need people who can bring the country together. This is a great time for Dems to get it together. There are a lot of dissatisfied Republicans who would vote for a moderate Dem. An extremely liberal Democrat is going to push people towards Trump.

YES.
I'm worried he will win the primary and either lose to Trump (because the rest of the country is not Montgomery County which votes for just anything with a D next to its name, and most will chose Trump over a Socialist) OR he WILL win and be terrible. And therefore give Republicans more legislative wins.

I like Bernie's socialist ideas, but don't believe they will attract a plurality of voters in American today, unfortunately. So I definitely don't support him, and am looking for someone who can lead the country from a more centrist position.

As in he is going to edge out a primary win in just enough states because the not-far-left vote will be too split.
And then he will lose to Trump, especially if Howard Schultz runs, or if he does win he will be terrible for the economy.
I live in Montgomery County (Chevy Chase) and most active Democrats here say "Anyone but Bernie," especially because he himself is Not a Democrat. But they haven't decided on one candidate. The DSA far left types are all Bernie or Bust. I'm worried that one year from now we still won't have picked a moderate option for a candidate. Personally, I would like to see a woman in office, but if Biden is the one who can beat Bernie, then he's my pick.
Those who lived through the Montgomery County Executive Primary should know this deja vu. Voters, please be smart. Even if it means looking to the Washington Post Editorial Board.
I'm not sure how other states and their primary delegates systems work but somebody else has to emerge as a frontrunner in the right states.
One geriatric, incompetent, curmudgeonly socialist in power is more than enough.
