You punish yourself simply by being you.

Some underperforming schools are also underenrolled. If people voluntarily move from their high performing school to a low performing school because of a magnet program offering it does a few things. First, it solves a capacity issue. Secondly, it helps bring a better peer group into the schools. Third, it helps balance schools with out ripping communities apart. Forth- if structured correctly high performing students in a low performing school with have access to some of the programming benefits. Of course, it's easier just to call me names.

No - desegregate then we can talk about it.

Shorter OP - I'm for more magnet programs, which provide more opportunities for my kids and also don't bring "the wrong type" to my home schools.

Even shorter OP - keep those kids out of my schools.

One of the board members lives in Bethesda, so no, I don't think they are all jealous.

However, some of those "poorer" schools are also overcrowded, so no, more programs to attract more upper income kids doesn't help with alleviating overcrowding.

Yes, they want to punish you ... but not because you're "rich", but because you're an ahole.

"Balancing demographics" is the term that is thrown around. If you put in a program that would attract the right "demographics" families to underperforming schools (i.e. another) that would be something most would support.

No, the purpose of the countywide boundary analysis is not to punish people who live in areas where people pay a lot for housing "for the schools." It's to assess the possibilities for boundary adjustments for capacity and demographics.
