If I were OP's parents I'd cut the chord and stop supporting OP, especially given that OP blames the parents, though just "partly".

OP's parents will probably leave a lot of money to OP when they die, and OP will still blame them for something like "oh, they didn't leave me all *that* much".

OMG.. grow up, and take ownership of your choices. You are probably miserable because of your immaturity more than anything.

Your parents loved you enough to let you follow your "dream", and now you're on here "partly" blaming them for your inability to live the lifestyle your parents gave you?

I'm a lawyer and I'm not better off than my parents, if that helps. They came from poor backgrounds and never went to college, but luck and a strong economy during their main earning years means they had more earning power at my age and have enjoyed huge real estate gains. Mom also has a great pension, the likes of which is no longer available.

It's really common for Gen X and younger to have less buying power and financial stability compared to the Boomers. I don't think your being a doctor or a lawyer would necessarily have changed that. But even if it would have, it's inappropriate to blame your parents for your choices.

We adjusted for inflation, I make the same as my dad did at my age but their Cape Cod in flyover country cost around 1/10 what the low end of the same house type does here.

Way to blame your parents for the consequences of your choices. Not only did you make your career choice but you stuck with it even after you knew it wasn’t going to get you the life that you wanted. You not only made a choice that you have now defined as a bad one but you’re too lazy to do the work to fix it. So you blame your parents.

It really. We make the same now as wha they made at our age. But their very similar house cost 1/3 of ours and they had kids earlier so not childcare and didnt have to save for college nearly as much.

Your parents supported you in something you were supposedly passionate about, and they still help you, how awful.
