Low test scores can be a problem. Ds has a 3.5 uw gpa (4.2 w)and 1500 SAT and was accepted at Villanova, Lehigh, Bucknell, URochester, etc. His best friend has a 3.7 uw (4.2w) and an 1190 SAT and is a URM. He was rejected from a similar spread of schools, and only accepted at a state school with an 80% acceptance rate and Penn State. It doesn’t seem fair.

Get ready for a lot of craziness. My son was waitlisted at a school where he was above the 75th percentile range for SAT score ie one of his 2 safeties.

He did get accepted at 2 publics - wisconsin-madison and vermont. Since we are DC residents, this is good news.

Serious question...what score range do you define as "terrible at standardized tests"? I ask because my DD is in this same situation...straight A, lots of AP, but low test scores. Acceptance at some of the schools that you mention don't seem to align with students with low test scores (e.g., NC State, JMU). So, just curious, what range got your nephew into those schools?

Boulder is hot rn so I don’t think it’s a safety to anyone.

Considering the student body at JMU is 76% white, I'm not sure what the point of the URM comment is.

My son was in a program for kids with LDs. I don't know all the kids stats but here are the colleges they are attending...

JMU, George Mason for Virginia are fine choices if you are in Virginia

York College of PA, Frostburg, Alfred U, College of NJ.

Non perfect kid here-- got into Ithaca and Penn State.

Have a junior who is super smart but not very high standardized testing and not saving the world, curing cancer or winning national awards.

Have a similar kid? What are your kids general stats and where did they get accepted/rejected from this year? (general info, not identifying info since folks on DCUM seem to think their kids are stalking this board).
