Several of the adults at the school have been unprofessional. I don’t know if they are overwhelmed because of the overcrowding and the “diverse” student body, but really there’s no excuse imo. One of my kids has special needs, but it isn’t obvious unless you say it. Well, a parent volunteer shamed my special needs kid for not being able to figure out their total when they shopped at a school fundraising event. They felt so bad and so embarrassed because they were trying to make a purchase but couldn’t figure out the total minus the cash I sent with them and the volunteer said something like “you’re old enough to know that! You shouldn’t be asking me to calculate it!”. I’ve also heard from both of my kids about the teachers at specials being very impatient and mean. It makes them dread seeing those teachers. The gym teacher is very good though. The classroom teachers have been hit or miss. There are some good teachers and some terrible teachers. You will end up with at least one terrible teacher if you send your kids there, so get ready for it.

Our DC is in 2nd grade. We've had nothing but a good experience at Shrevewood. the PTA is very active, and there are a lot of activities throughout the year as someone else mentioned. One in particular is International Night - Shrevewood prides itself on being diverse; there are children whose families hail from over 50 different countries with about 25 different languages spoken at home. Our child is also in the SACC program, and the instructors there are wonderful.

Can you give examples? How does it work for younger grades -- there's no AAP in first grade, right?

We're looking at houses zoned to Shrevewood Elementary in the Fairfax County party of Falls Church - just wondering if anyone can provide recent feedback on school and teachers (DD will be starting 1st grade, so if there are any particular teachers you recommend that would be awesome -- I know we can't request a teacher, but it would still be good to know). What is the class size like? How are the specials teachers? What are the principal and assistant principal like? Overall, how is the community? Is the PTA friendly to working parents? That sort of thing...
