The picture thing doesn't bother me at all because I don't know about you, but I don't have photos of myself doing everyday things like sitting at my desk or driving my car. If people had random self portraits or something, I'd think that was more bizarre.

Ugh, got so tired of all the lame “jokes”. I also hated the ones that would like the 20-30 favorite movies and 20-30 favorite tv shows and 20-30 favorite books. Yawn.
OP- make sure to read the profiles of people similar to you (gender, race, age). It’ll give you an idea of what not to say and how to make your profile stand out.
