not the OP but the Methodist church as a whole is not very welcoming. Individual churches may be but they still have rules to follow. I would stick with Episcopalian.


Methodists are going through some stuff on this front right now. It's something I'd really want to know about how a specific church was reacting before going regularly.

I just googled "open and affirming churches near me" and came up with a bunch of options - ended up at a Baptist church (in NoVa, not MD, sorry), which was new to me but a really welcoming community.

We are members of the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church. Many Presbyterian Churches are More Light churches which means that they are explicitly affirming. The Takoma Park Presbyterian Church is one of the more light churches.

correction, I meant reconciling, like the pp stated, when I referred to the Methodists.

I am a Gay female and attend St Philips Episcopal Church in Laurel. It is very traditional as far as the service goes but our rector is a gay married woman, we got married there a few years ago, and the congregation is very welcoming. They also have a lot of community outreach which is something I enjoy.
