It's just a silly and irresponsible thing to do. A two year old cannot appreciate the risk or consequences of playing on a bike. And she doesn't have the impulse control to make those decisions rationally.

It would be great if her mom stopped her, but your decision making is poor here. Why would you do this?

The poster is a lunatic.

This is what is wrong with society. No one should bike because you have a two year old??
This comment is stunningly off base.

Plus 1. There is no way i’m living my life to appease some strange two year old..

Same.

Ditto she isn't going to hurt the bike or herself.

Natural consequences are the best.

BUT HER PARENT SHOULD BE THERE TO MONITOR THIS!

It was not silly and irresponsible. The parent of a 2 year old should be able to monitor a 2 year old and redirect to something else.

I would have said No you can't climb on this bike, if she kept climbing I would have physically removed her from the bike and said " where is your Mom?"

Depens on my concern,

If I was worried about my kids bike being damaged or if I was concerned about a kid climbing on it.

I woudln't care about the kid climbing on it or the bike falling on her. Those are natural consequences and unlikely to cause serious injury. I am fine with the mom letting her kid explore the world - although climbing on someone else's bike without permission should be a no go as it doesn't respect the property of others.

If I was worried about the bike getting damaged or left where it might get trampled, I would move the bike to a more secure location and tell the mother, I don't want it getting damaged.

There was no other place to put it but there (no outdoor rack). I parked it off to the side so it wasn’t in the way, but I assure you that girl would have come found that bike wherever it was!

If the bike was small enough for the strange child to climb on, I would have just taken it with me.

I realize everyone has their own parenting style, and I’m usually very tolerant but this totally irked me.

I arrived at my child’s activity class- she biked there, and I was dropping off, so I was parking her bike by the door. A 2 year old comes over and starts climbing onto the bike, and I say very nicely “sorry sweetie, this bike isn’t for climbing, it’s very heavy and can tip over on you” to which the 2 year old says “no, this is my bike, I’m going to ride it” and gets on the bike as it starts tipping. I hold the bike so it doesn’t fall on her, and now she’s balanced on it while I’m holding the bike up. I say “no, please get off the bike.” Girl goes “no thanks. You push me and give me a ride.” This goes on for a while, but the girl is obviously not going to listen unless I physically remove her. This is all well and good, as she’s only 2, but I’m like where is the parent?

I look around and there is the mom in the distance looking on with loving eyes not doing a thing. I give her another look and finally she goes, “are you not ok with her on the bike?” And I said, “I don’t want her climbing it. It’s a heavy bike and it will tip, and I have to leave (and can’t babysit your 2yo for you!)” So she finally gets her off the bike, and I leave. And as I’m leaving, I see the girl through the glass door, has just climbed back on the bike and it has fallen on top of her. WTH! I couldn’t believe she let her climb on it again.

How would you have handled the scenario?
