While I never had a child play for this club we did debate going to their player evaluations. We found it very odd they wouldn’t use the word tryouts and that everyone made a team and they tried so hard to be politically correct.

Also heard many stories that the Eskeys only care about themselves and their kids. After seeing their clubs Instagram account this is definitely true! No instagram stories on younger kids but a bunch on their kids and their friends.

It’s amazing that no one came in here to say anything good about this club and a lot of the stories match!

Their 06, 07 and 08 teams performed poorly in the mid level Baltimore Mania Tournament this weekend. I guess all their kids have fun though and look forward to their end of season fried chicken picnic they hold!

All the owner cares about is his own kids and the semi pro team he has them play on. Took a lot of money from the youth program to rent hood college and also start up the semi pro team. When that could have been used years ago to purchase turf fields.

Did you ever see their “futsal” It’s called WISL or something and is in a warehouse with openings so it’s freezing inside and has pillars in the middle of the “court”

The issues at this club start with the owner and his bias towards his own children.

Stay far far away from FC Frederick!!

Oh the WISL warehouse....I pulled my DC out of that ridiculousness the night an overhead lighting fixture came crashing to the floor while they were playing futsal. Fortunately no kids were in the spot when it fell. We still play FC Frederick but I won’t let my kids in that warehouse.

OP I feel your pain....

Our family moved to the Frederick area a few years ago and a friend at work recommended FC Frederick. My son played for them for a few minutes before we realized it was a bad fit. At the U10/U11 age group, they had never introduced the concept of passing the ball. They didn’t teach it, they didn’t encourage it, they actually actively discouraged it. My son would pass the ball and never receive a return pass. Kids would get the ball near their own goal and proceed to attempt to take it the entire length of the field without passing. Kids on the other team would yell out, “He’s not gonna pass” and then 4 players would pressure the ball and easily take it away.

When questioned about this style of play, the explanation was that they focus solely on individual skills until about U13 and after that they worry about passing the ball, because passing is easy to teach. My son was not benefitting from practices and games (and yes they spend a significant amount of time at practice juggling the ball) so we quickly moved on and are playing for Bethesda. I don’t mind working on individual skills at young ages, but passing is also a skill that needs work (you actually have to stop looking at the ball and look up to find a teammate, not an easy skill at young ages).

FC Frederick also does not believe in having top level teams at that age, so all the top kids are split across 4-5 teams and each of them are very mediocre.

Because of the reverse commute, it takes roughly 25 min to drive to the most Bethesda practice locations. It was taking me about 20 min to get to Ballenger Creek park in Frederick for FC Frederick practices, so it was not much longer of a drive and worth it for a much better experience. Last year there were 4-5 USSDA kids on Bethesda teams from Frederick; each ran away from FC Frederick because of their coaching philosophy.

I wouldn’t blame the ownership for lack of DA or ECNL. It’s an already saturated market.

You are the consumer and if you are this displeased with the club, then you should take your business elsewhere. That's the only thing that will work, financial punch.

I have to vent about how bad this club has hurt the areas across the river from Leesburg and surrounding areas!

Huge area with large population from Hagerstown to Mt. Airy. One good team from each boys and girls every 5 to 10 years. SMH. Parents who want more for they're kids than just to play on the high school team are forced to drive miles and miles to NoVA or Bethesda.

FC Frederick, what a joke. Owners' won't listen to anyone except they're own egotistical thoughts. No ECNL, no DA, just third tier leagues. Email you everyday about how they're CCL teams are doing and they're so called "Pro Team".

Emphasize on player development only until age 13, nothing else. Kids can juggle over a thousand times and dribble through a collapsing building but you put them on a field and they have no idea how to play together. But they can make the High School team!!! What a joke. Goalie's even try to dribble up the field on their own until age 12.

My personal favorite...the very first thing they tell you. "If you are here to win, you should just leave now." Should just say "we take pride in losing...even to the absolute worst."

Frederick County is now diluted with other crap Mom and Pop Rec Clubs, Alliance, Frederick County Soccer Club, and now TOCA?!?!? Even Mt. Airy Rec Assoc. now has a couple club teams.

If FC Frederick ever changed it's approach, they could be a major player in the area. Any decent kid gets out by age 8 and never looks back.

/rant

Thanks FC Frederick for costing me even more money and time just to commute to half decent club 45 minutes to an hour each way. Eat a bag....
