If your child has never been dropped off at a daycare (which I assume is the case given that you have a nanny) then you should find a backup nanny so that DC can be in their own home and bed withought adding another layer of stress. Agencies offer backup care. It costs more, but the background of a stranger has been done for you and the comfort for your child is important. Then you can continue to use this person for backup if you like her.

Have you checked your benefits at work? Many companies offer back up care - either at a daycare center or a nanny.

Fed. No such luck.

I’m sure you’ve double checked this already but just for anyone else reading, many Fed agencies do offer backup care. It’s very agency-specific so doesn’t sound like it helps you, OP.

Have you looked at White House Nannies or College Nannies and Tutors? Those are two of the agencies Bright Horizons backup care uses so you might be able to go to them directly.

I work for DOJ and I know one of the components has back up care through EAP. I wish mine did as well!

I think several bright horizons do this, at least the one in Alexandria did

I'm not in the DC area, but some daycares especially the larger centers have drop in slots available. I would try calling around.

Our nanny has an emergency and needs a week off of work. Are there any daycare centers in downtown or NW DC that would take a toddler for a week in this kind of scenario? Double posting in the daycare forum in hopes of as many options as possible.
