Yes full pay is a hook especially as it allows you to apply ED.

My kid wouldn’t be full-pay at an expensive private school, and I think private pay is a great hook at a lot of private schools.

While we're thinking about these scores, can I elbow in and ask suggestions for my DS with very similar stats (similar SAT, 3.7 unweighted GPA). Interests in the humanities, hyper-intellectual kid, one strong EC.

Pitt as a safety

She needs a more realistic list for her scores and GPA...

I wouldn't say none and it depends if full pay and race/nationality.

My DD who was not full pay with a 1550 and 4.0/4.6 was denied at Columbia and waitlisted at Barnard. Suggest you show Barnard alot of interest. Didn't apply to Stanford but it would not have mattered. Likely admit to NYU based on son's admission with much lessor stats. Georgetown would have been a tossup - with a 3.9 and 1400 for a female I'd put that in the not accepted pile. Don't know about GWU. Admit to Denison likely with Merit. If full pay likely admit to Kenyon - if not toss up. Don't know about American. Don't know about Maryland. I would assume admit to Wooster with Merit. I would think Berkeley would be a deny and suspect Michigan too. I'd say likely admit to Oberlin based on son's admission with lesser stats (although being a male is a hook at SLACs).

I agree with checking out Wisc. What about UMN.

Definitely Macalaster. If the 3.9 / 1400 is weighted a lot of those schools are a heavy lift, Look at St. Olaf while in Minnesota.

Indiana U- Bloomington is a cute, cute town and IU has a nice sense of community.

Did she look at Kalamazoo College when in Michigan? It's a lot like Wooster only a bit more vibrant (in a small city, near another large public u,). It has a strong sense of community, a history of attracting some really strong students, encourages student research, internships and study abroad, and she would likely qualify for merit aid--they are fairly generous.
Beloit and Lawrence would also be potential visits if you're in Wisconsin and St. Olaf if you also visit Macalester. University of Iowa is another possibility if you're out that way--Iowa City is a nice college town. It looks like her "loved" lists needs a little more realistic options for her GPA/SAT so I would focus on that.
