The American Girl Bitty Baby doll is sweet and good for young ages. Our daughter's first doll was a Waldorf doll which she also loved for a long time. Something like this:

I think my dd had a doll from fisher price. You want one safe for her age-nothing that can come off or be sharp. DD's was like a stuffed toy.

I took my DD to stay with my MIL for a few days. DD absolutely loved playing with a doll (watching / reaching out to touch) that my MIL has for teaching breastfeeding. It was life-like, had plastic limbs and face and a cloth body. I could prop it up with a cushion and DD would be entertained for hours.

I thought this kind of toy was a bit too old for my 6 month old, but she liked it so much I'm considering buying one. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I never played with dolls as a little girl so I'm not sure where to start. And I find most of them pretty hideous!
