Let’s see... a German designed car, built in Mexico.

What could possibly go wrong ?!?!

^^Oops, posted the above in the wrong thread. Was just browsing this forum to check real-person reviews for the Tiguan. So, looks like it's a big no.

50s, we are a one-car family so it's for M & F and soon to-be-driving teen. We have a gas guzzling 2009 Forester purchased in 2011 IIRC and it wasn't as reliable as we'd hoped. This time, DH wants hybrid or electric and new. We have test driven the RAV4, which was fine, and will soon take a look at the '21 Tiguan. The kid (and I) hope for a used Tesla, but doubt that spouse will go for it.

I'd rather get used Japanese than European. My Opel drove well though. Audi died once a week.

You mean afford the BMW repairs?

It's hard to believe there is a less powerful crossover than the RAV4 but VW did it...

OP: "Once you go European you never go back, they just drive so much better"

cocktail party guest: "Oh nice, what do you have?"

OP: "A 2019 VW Tiguan. The 184 horsepower really throws you back in your seat, and the build quality from their Puebla, Mexico plant really shines through"

Meh. All it shows is that you don’t read reviews on reliability and value for money.

We were excited about it, but the review in Consumer Reports was terrible.

Why the Tiguan? It's not a class-competitive vehicle. The safety is good but drive, fuel economy, and reliability are all poor.

We are considering a new Tiguan but I wasn't a huge fan of the engine. It seems underpowered and noisy. Anyone purchase a new one and like it? I test drove after an Atlas but decided that was bigger than we needed. Tiguan is also priced well (as is the Atlas) compared to other cars in that size range.
