There was a sweet dog that was shot in Fairfax a few years ago by a loser who claimed that he was afraid of off leash dogs.

Whether the dog is good off leash is irrelevant; there is no place nearby aside from dog parks where it’s legal.

The only loser in this situation is the ahole dog owner who thought they were above the law. If you don't care enough about your dog to be responsible for it, don't expect others to do so.

It is not next to "the river" there is no river in Shirlington. It's next to Four Mile Run which is a stream.

You have to head west off of Roosevelt St. on N. 16th St. one block and then turn right on Sycamore, Benjamin Banneker Dog Park is right there, it is completely fenced in.

OP's dog may or may not need obedience school, but a dog still needs to be leashed almost everywhere in public except a dog park.

There is one in Arlington off Military Road and Glebe Road - by that white old looking church. It is next to a senior / community center. We used to drive there when we lived in NW DC because it was just across Chain Bridge. Fully fenced. Not for kids. Benches for people.

It was nice

I’m used to being in cities where there are fenced dog parks to let my dog play with other dogs off leash. Is there anything like that near Falls Church, Fairfax, Arlington? My dog cannot be trusted off leash at all.
