Knowing not to stress or research but just survive is what experience is, OP.

I watched my infant niece for 90 minutes and it terrified me because I couldn’t nurse her and it made me realize I don’t know a non-nursing way to soothe a baby! (It went fine)

I do that too. I don’t remember their first words. I remember DH and I both claimed they said dada or mama first, but it was more of a running joke. I asked him if he remembered their first words for real and he said he has no idea either.

It’s all okay. You don’t have to remember all those details. They don’t really matter that much because babies are so different anyway. If you have concerns, just check with your pediatrician. Don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s a lot of work.

OP, you seem a little down and negative on yourself. The early baby stage is HARD. I remember very little except just being so very tired. Try to take it easy and just be in the moment with your little one. Your baby doesn't need you to be an expert. Just to be loving and do your best!

My third will be 1 soon. I don’t feel like an expert on babies, but I was way more relaxed that we’d figure it out and didn’t stress about things like I did with my first two.

I find it the opposite and get the oh, I have 3-4-5 kids so I know it all. The baby period is very short, so its very easy to forget.

It actually seems to me like the more children people have, the less they feel like “baby experts.” Because the know all babies are different. People with one infant LOVE to give advice. People with more than one kid seem to give less advice. In my experience.

My youngest is 8 weeks old and lately I've realized I still dont really know much about babies. All of my kids have had really different infancies and we as a family have all been in different places as a family during those infancies. 1st kid: broke both working. 2nd kid: not as broke both working. 3rd kid: I'm working part time/more stable. I also am terrible at remember my other kids baby milestones to compare. "Well when did tommy jr sleep through the night?" "Ummmm....well...no idea!" I almost feel like I was probably a better mom the first time around bc I had the time and interest to research the heck out of every single stage. The one thing I do realize as a broken in mom is how quickly each stage goes by. I almost dont worry or invest in any one problem because I know it will naturally drift into another problem in a few weeks anyway. Any other moms of big families still feel like they dont really know what they are doing?
