Silver Spring is a weird mix between a dump and an outdoor outlet mall. Takoma Park is old and moldy, Bethesda is too commercial and just yuck, Clarendon used to be very cool but now is like millenial warehouse, Alexandria is too historic, Crystal City is underground, Rockville is a strip of big box stores with filled with soccer parents, Tysons is a mall on steroids...
Maryland people try so hard to feel good about themselves with their lame comparisons and never manage to pull it off.

I am saying it is cooler than any other DC suburb

Some competitors:
Silver Spring - maybe could be considered cooler.... they have AFI silver, have the Fillmore venue, but are a little bit too cookie cutter to get 1st place
Bethesda - yeah, really nice, but not as "cool"
Clarendon - also has performing arts, bars, restaurants etc, but too douchey
Takoma Park - too crunchy, too old
anything farther out in Virginia than Arlington - no, just no
