I took 3 new languages in high school and continued with 1 language I had takes since 4th grade. So did all my classmates and STEM kids in the other class.
Languages are the easy classes. Math, physics and chemistry are the hard ones.

bump. scheduling choices are to be submitted soon to Wilson, so if anyone has any perspective on this, that would be great. DC is an above average but not stand out student. still, i want him to be challenged because i think it helps him. but i don't want to overwhelm him in 9th at a big school. thanks.

Thanks. Yes, he is already studying one and so it would be continuation of that one plus starting a new one.

Agree with PP. I would also add that motivation really counts. If your kid loves languages and just is all about this (I was) two is OK. Anything less, hold off.

do you find that 9th grade is a big adjustment and it is best not to give the students a demanding schedule to start? or is the regular workload manageable and therefore an additional language class is very doable?
also: our child plays sports. not sure how he will do in terms of making the wilson teams, so we will probably be looking for rec and club to keep him involved.

Has he already studied one language that he is continuing with and simply adding on another? If so, that sounds fine. If he is starting two new languages from the beginning, that could be more challenging.
