JFC. I guess all of us who had complicated births, infections post delivery, etc. are awful for using the nursery, starting with formula, using pain medications. Not to mention those with preemies, or with a chronic disease. Plus, you don't need to give birth to be a parent to a baby - ask male same-sex couples, adoptive parents, etc.

You $uck, OP.

Please stop feeding the troll. Or the miserable person. Either way, no need to keep commenting.

It just screams misogyny to me to suggest there is something wrong with wanting pain killers for childbirth and not for a root canal.

This is just an inflammatory troll post.

Hey mommy martyr! Suffering during labor and delivery doesn't make you a better mom!

I have three children I adore. Yup, hated childbirth. Yup, handed that baby right over to the nursery at the hospital so I could sleep and recover from said difficult deliveries. I had zero guilt about telling those nurses I wasn't doing the in room thing. Yup, hated breastfeeding although I did it for several months per kid, and yup, my babies slept in their own rooms, as per my doc's instructions.

And you know what? They are all loved and thriving in the elementary and middle school years. We have a peaceful, loving family. My kids are healthy and happy.

Not everyone loves the baby stages.

Personally, I have loved the toddler phase the most. Toddlers are so fun and adorable. Some people find it a challenging period but we are all different.

Mom of 3. Pregnant 4x.

Another problem with the Information Age and oversharing. We need to keep more things private. No one needs to share the pee stick/the soon/the gender reveal/the birth plan/the birth story/the journey to parenthood/naming the baby before birth.

No one will know about your scheduled induction, whether you are BF or formula feed, that you chose to send your newborn to the nursery one night, that you didn't babyproof and lockdown your house if you keep this information private.

Just stop! Upshot is no one cares, it is not a competition and there's no award ceremony!

Ugh, it's people like you who made me think I didn't want children. Turns out I just didn't want to be pregnant and give birth: I love being a mom. If I had known earlier, I'd have more kids. The things you describe are 0.00001% of having children.

(No, in the end I didn't adopt. Got pregnant and had an elective c. Loved breastfeeding and co-rooming.)

Why do you think a woman's worth as a mother is measured by her pain and discomfort? Should my husband self-flagellate so he can also be a good parent?

Once you and your kids are older, you realize that things like unmedicated birth and breastfeeding are a very, very, VERY small part of being a parent and not all that important.

Personally, formula allowed me to overcome PPD and be a more attentive and caring mother. A happy mom is a million times more important than anything you mentioned.

PP here...I did these things for me, not for my baby. Realistically, they'll probably have a negligible impact on his life and well-being.

many people don't enjoy the baby stage. I wanted to have children, not babies.

Where is the rule that you have to do all those things to be a good parent?

Pain killers are awesome. Formula is awesome. Recovery after an intense medical procedure (BIRTH) is awesome. Sleep is awesome.

Maybe we'd have less insane crippling PPD/PPA if we just supported what ever gets women/mothers through the first few weeks of having a newborn.

If you want to do it the hardest way possible, go for it. That's great for you. But there is no gold medal for doing so.
