I don't think places like Harvard are overrated. But others? yeah. I can never comprehend why non-independently wealthy people pay $75K/year for Tulane or wherever.

My Europeans friends went to GT, AU, GW and UMD. None of them were admitted to state universities back at home. My high school was harder and more work than my business degree here.

They come to America because it’s simultaneously more prestigious and easier. To get a degree from American university carries a great deal of social cache back in their home countries.

So then word needs to get out that America is overrated. They should all apply for colleges in a China or India. Let them be flooded with foreign students (or even their own students).

Last time I checked, MIT only accepted credit from Cambridge. It would consider it from a few other universities worldwide. The US, like Europe has a lot of mediocre schools and some very good ones.

I'm wondering about American colleges too, and feeling very cynical since yesterday. My kid speaks French, so wondering whether to look at McGill or European universities when the time comes (many years away).

They are certainly overrated relative to their sticker prices. It’s simply absurd what Americans spend on higher education, compared to other countries.

If cost isn’t an issue, American colleges are generally good. You have more fluff degrees and departments, but the real stuff is solid.

The entire admission process must be overhauled.

OP, what is your basis for comparison and experience that those schools?

I've attended a foreign college and a US college. There are similarities and differences and each has certain advantages. I could never make an overall statement like that.

I agree., and I’m an American. Way overpriced, too! There, I said it.
