But this reminds me that in 6th grade, a boy gave DD a black eye with the corner of his locker and he apologized instantly, she forgave him instantly, and the school STILL called me to say "Now we don't want you to panic, but when you see DD ..."
That was the day I told her, "Problems are not solved with ice cream; do you understand me?" and after she nodded I said, "But a black eye deserves some ice cream - let's go!" and she laughed.
