Why not send them to private school? Your 100K income certainly should be able to cover that.

For some reason, men never seem to have the aptitude for homeschooling, though plenty of men are teachers, professors, trainers, etc. It is curious...

I think it's a great idea. Nobody cares about your kids like you do. Don't let DCUM tell you otherwise.

Trust me when I say that kids benefit more from devoted parents than the frills money can buy.

And even if you have an educational background by middle school there are so many specialties that need to be taught that you will never be able to master. And all of that ignores the missed opportunities to be socialized to get by in the real world.

With your purported income I'm surprised you really live in an area with poor public schools - where do you live?

Also are you a conservative christian?

Huh. If your education was so poor that you cannot teach your elementary schooler reading, math, etc. then it doesn’t speak too highly of it, no?

Middle and high school are different, I’ll give you that.

Np. But there is a difference between having comprehension of reading, writing, etc., and having an educational background in the best/different methods to teach and transfer that knowledge. I don’t think it’s dissinilar to the professional world where some people are amazing individual contributors but the minute they have to manage it is a mess. Having the skills and being able to translfer / inspire them in others are two totally different skill sets. Obviously some people have both but it’s not a forgone conclusion by any means.

Constructively, I would say send your kid to school and use your income and time outside of work to enrich their education with experiences and activities that speak to you.

If you're making 240k you can afford to move a mile south into FCPS, ESPECIALLY if you already own. Alexandria prices are skyrocketing because of Amazon.

Alexandria doesn't have poor public schools.

In any case if you are making 240K and can't afford a house in a nice area then you do need to post in the money and finances thread - we are making a lot less than you and are in a more expensive area than Bethesda and with higher taxes than VA.

I'm in an amazing point of opportunity in my career, and have two young kids. Really have a chance to excel within my organization, but it's not like, a passion, I guess. But I think I could do a better job raising my kids than anyone else, and don't believe the education they'd get at public school would be good quality, and private school is very expensive and still probably not as good as home schooling if I devote all my energy into my kids instead of my high demanding job. But giving up my salary would mean a significant impact on our quality of life/what we could save. We'd be able to do it, but without my 100K incomes, we'd be making about 140k (this includes rental income). How to make this decision? Nothing more important to invest in than my kids, right?
