I hated guys like you. In the DC area, guys are super vague about plans. They try to feel you out before actually asking. Or if they find out you are going out somewhere, "maybe Ill see you there". Or they tell you where they are going to be and expect you go there on the off chance you will run into them.

If you want to go out with her then you need to ask, "If you aren't busy on Saturday, would you like to go ti dinner and a movie with me?"

Based on my experience, if you have a date with a woman at 8pm Saturday, she is willing to accept a date at 7:55pm Saturday with some other guy if she thinks it's a better deal.

This smacks of one of those weird arbitrary “rules” that people put out, and then wonder why they are perpetually unhappy and single.

There are lots of reasons in a fluid life, that someone may not ask you out until later in the week. You can either take it as you’re Plan B, or take it that the moment their time freed up, for whatever reason, they decided they’d like to spend that time with you instead of someone else.

If OP is a guy - my answer is, ask as early as possible. A week or at least by Tues or Weds. But if circumstances prevented you from asking earlier, ask later than Weds anyway rather than forego a date.

As a woman, in the days of texting, things move so quickly. If I was free, I'd probably say yes as long as he asked by Friday.

My prim and uptight and miserable mother told me Tuesday, but the guy who'd ask me out on Tuesdays for Fridays was abusive and insulting.

The guy who would ask me out on Thursdays was kind and funny and a hard worker and I married him.
