That's a totally appropriate question if OP is weighing Peabody/Watkins vs another ES where enrollment begins in PK
Well now is when it makes sense for us to move, so trying to think where to. We like the Hill and will look inbound for Maury, too. Thanks for the feedback, all.
Former Watkins parent here. I don't think that the school quality is that different between Maury and Watkins for UMC students, especially UMC white students in terms of performance. IIRC while Maury overall has higher aggregate PARCC scores, by subgroup they are closely in line but there are more lower SES kids/at-risk at Watkins than Maury (mostly AA). The proportions are just flipped. There are differences in the community and feel, and one may suit you more than the other.
If middle school is a real concern - if you want DCPS over charter or private, then Watkins is a better bet with the feed to Stuart Hobson.
Uhm, there’s a pretty significant difference between harmonious Maury and parent factions-at-war Watkins in terms of feel. Watkins is more like L-T in terms of overall performance, but I’d choose L-T in a heartbeat (and still get the SH feed). Talk to current parents of both schools, not former ones.
