I'm a nanny. Most of my jobs now come by referral, but I've used care.com and sitter city too. In 12 years, I've had 2 background checks done. The most recent one seemed funny to me because I had just interviewed with an agency and had a top notch background check done, but the family from care.com didn't like it so they ran the care.com background check. I told them there have been reports of them not being as thorough or reliable but that's what they wanted.

She's been wonderful.

It's all about doing your due diligence.

Same with pet care companies. No trust there.

The people on there seem so wacky I’ve honesyly never called one.
Ithe ads are like ‘I want to come to your house to watch your kids and bring along my infant, toddler and dog and I have to study for my French final exam - $ 32 and you can pick us up from the metro’.

If you use care dot com, be sure to check out the WSJ article that just came out. https://www.wsj.com/articles/care-com-puts-onus-on-families-to-check-caregivers-backgroundswith-sometimes-tragic-outcomes-11552088138

Here is a link if you don't get WSJ to give you the gist: https://www.mother.ly/news/what-to-look-for-when-hiring-babysitter-or-childcare-provider

Always do your own extra background checks on your sitters, nannies, and child care facilities. Sitters should also be careful whose homes they go into and make sure families are legitimate.
