Rather than the aquatic center I wish they had added outdooor pools to community centers. Sure can’t use it year round but better community investment.

The history of those pools is absolutely rooted in segregation. Maybe it’s changed, but when I bought a home in south Arlington 10 years ago I looked up getting on the waitlist of Overlee ( i think). I wasn’t allowed to sign up, because my address wasn’t acceptable. I lived near Nauck at the time.

It is. That’s why people in Arlington wait to get into the pools and pay to use the high school pools. If you haven’t noticed Arlington is a very segregated county.

Many go to Upton Hill: https://www.novaparks.com/parks/upton-hill-regional-park It gets super crowded on weekends.

Someone has to pay for upkeep. The land, maintenance, renovations, staffing, etc are expensive.

Overlee is roughly 3k to join and currently $750/775 for a family of four or more per summer.

I’m not exactly sure how the waitlist works since people can defer membership for a year, but we were given an offer when my math showed we should have been close to 100 on the waitlist- that was a year before I was expecting it (no complaints!)

Arlington forest is like 3k first year and 800 per year after initial fee.

It is a very nice club, especially if you like tennis

I don’t know how people pay to cut. Unless you sell the membership with your house, our pool membership coordinators tell you who you will be transferring to when you decide to sell. It has to go in wait list order.

Dominion Hills is a $1050 buy-in and $850 per season right now. We were able to “rent” an August / September membership for 2 years before we were offered a full season and membership. That helped us decide how much we would really use the pool. We had 3 years with no rental option and 2 partial seasons before we got our membership offer. Based on our neighbors, our experience was typical.

We’ve been on the Overlee list for 5 years are still in the mid-500s. They claim that most families moved up 120 spots last year, but we only moved up 70. So 10 more years?

Knights of Columbus has new sign-ups every year and lots of people love that pool.

The waiting list for pools near us Arlington Forest; Dominion hills etc have really long wait lists.

I heard of people paying up to 10k for Arlington Forest certificate to join, then another 3k in fees to the actual club. Since we do not live in the priority areas of either club they said the wait list for AF would 10 years and Dominion 5.

Are there any other options? Do people actually pay to "cut in line"?
