OP here. She was showing up late and then would have dinner or coffee in hand. Like, if you wouldn’t have stopped for coffee or that pizza, you could have made it to the school line on time?

And yes, our DD were school friends, but we never were. The girls also never played outside of the school playground after school.

Threads like this are why I NEVER EVER ask anyone for help—the score keeping is insane! I don’t know why people get so bent out of shape about giving some kid a ride, who the hell cares if you’re “being used.” I can see if you’re going way out of your way, but, most of the complainers are losing their shit and ending friendships over 5-10 minutes.

You are (were) friends, right? Before your petty annoyance of picking up her kid? And your kids are friends too?
Dont friends help each other out and not go tit for tat on favors? And even if your friend couldn't immediately return the helpful gesture right away, doesnt mean a little ways down the road she could help you out.

This. And considering she didn’t even have the courtesy to text back, I wouldn’t be answering her calls or texts again.

My guess is she wanted something. Some favor request which needed an immediate response. Screening is so useful. I'd continue to do when she calls, if she does.

A couple years ago, a mom of one of DDs friends appealed to me to drive her DD home a couple times a week when her schedule had her cutting it close. Long story short, it became apparent she was using me, so I told her I couldn’t help her anymore. The following fall, she asked me if I could help her again, and I turned her down.

I hadn’t seen her in a year, and we reconnected at a school function, where we talked for a while. A week later, I got a random phone call from her at 5pm, but I couldn’t take the call. (It was odd that she called, because she had always been a texter, unless she had something she wanted to ask and wanted to put you on the spot via phone call.) No voicemail. I texted back but never heard from her again. This was a week ago.

Am I projecting, or do you think she wanted something from me but lost her nerve when I didn’t answer?
