Why would MLS care about talent dilution on their farm team? They do not care about wins and loses on their developmental squad.

I think what they meant was MLS teams having to play diluted Club teams was a waste of time for the MLS teams. The MLS DA players weren't getting the workout they needed vs. diluted Club DA teams.

At least I think that's what they meant.

Some of the smaller DA programs are under pressure for 'more games, more tournaments' from their parents who are saying 'I pay this much for XX games and I can pay the same for XX+10 games with this club'. More than a few parents have bristled at the cost of showcase matches that are airplane rides and hotels away, not to mention multiple days off school when there are clubs nearby that they could play easier / cheaper.

And then of course there is the whole issue of control. MLS doesn't want to follow the dictates of US soccer when it comes to developing their own talent.

I really don't see how a split can be avoided.

The oracles of this forum say that MLS and US Soccer are one and the same, joined at the hip. How are you going to split this Siamese twin baby?

The bolded is telling.

There’s a vested interest for them. They are looking for a job if it’s over.

And non-DA clubs are just as excited to see it fail. It makes it easier for them to sell themselves - like in the good ole days of the VCCL.

New DA clubs announced but none in the DMV.

This explains why Loudoun moved its boys teams to ECNL. It is also interesting that Arlington did not get additional age groups.

No it’s not. If you follow soccer, even MLS wants to be rid of academies.

DA is a dying breed.

Regardless of your view of the DA, the Loudoun decision was definitely related to losing the younger group, and having their girls side already in ECNL. If they already had a full academy, they wouldn’t have made the switch. They ironically would have also had a better chance to nail down the GDA spot they desperately wanted a couple years ago instead of having to settle for the disaster marriage with FCV.

MLS does not want to give up control over DA, they may restructure it, but they hate giving up power.

Lol. MLS doesnt care about DA. They will pull out 2020
