1. Parents who work full time have full time care / full day preschool
2. Parents who don’t work full time or outside the home, use part day preschool
3. Parents who have nannies and also do preschool / activities, have nannies that drive or choose a preschool walkable from their house (in all weather)

The short answer is that part-day preschool is not for working parents.

I agree with the consensus, but am honestly curious why people hire a nanny that doesn’t drive. We’re you just not thinking ahead? NO judgment, I promise! Genuinely curious.

Or find a preschool within walking distance of you so your nanny can walk there and back.

If you have friends who have a child of the same age, you can ask them to take your child away.

We were in this situation and were able to find a family who we could carpool with. It worked well about 95% of the time, but added another moving piece to daily logistics. At the time, we also started looking into hiring someone who could just do the pick-up, considering an area college student. After a year of that arrangement, we ended up hiring a different nanny who could drive. Agree with PPs that as kids get older, driving is more essential. It’s helped so much with simple logistics and allowed our kids to have more play dates and different types of after school activities that simply weren’t possible before.

Time to start thinking about getting a nanny who drives. Doesn’t yours get bored staying home with the kids all day? As they get older you will want to sign them up for activities, they will be invited for play dates, will want to get out of the house and go to the library or playground. You will eventually need a driving nanny unless those things are nearby and walking is an option, or taking public transportation but that’s not easy with kids.

You need to get a nanny who can drive.

Having a non driving Nanny is going to be an issue as your kids get older.

But carpool implies you'll do your equal share, so driving nanny or walkable preschool seems to be the solution.

Hi all -- Our 2 year old is likely going to start preschool in the Fall. Most of the schools in our area are half-day programs. We have a nanny at home, as both my husband and I work, but our nanny does not drive and she will be taking care of our other child. How to people handle midday school pick-ups when both parents work? Are there nanny services for just school drop-off/pick-up? Ideas/recommendations welcome!
