It’s a typical DC suburb. Ugly. This area has the worst housing stock. And it’s just a huge mass of overdevelopment. Nothing charming about the DC area.

While I don't think that Arlingtonians are necessarily politically open-minded (myself being an Arlingtonian) one comment on the article really keys in on the bunk from this survey:
This is an...interesting...methodology.
To do this assessment, PredictWise first partnered with Pollfish to run a nationwide poll of 2,000 adults to capture people’s feelings about the other party. The survey asked how people would feel if a close family member married a Republican or a Democrat; how well they think the terms selfish, compassionate, or patriotic describe Democrats versus Republicans; and other questions designed to capture sentiments about political differences.
Based on the survey results, Tobias Konitzer, the co-founder of PredictWise, investigated which demographic characteristics seemed to correlate with partisan prejudice. He found, for example, that age, race, urbanicity, partisan loyalty, and education did coincide with more prejudice (but gender did not). In this way, he created a kind of profile of contemporary partisan prejudice.
So really, Arlington shares a similar demographic profile to people who are "prejudiced" against people of the other political party. It's reasonably possible that not a single Arlington resident was actually surveyed.

I could not agree more with this article. I have lived in majority conservative areas but never encountered anything like the intolerance I have seen in Arlington in the 15 years I have lived here. The assumptions are what gets me- the person striking up a conversation at party or event assumes that since you look like/are a local, of course your beliefs match theirs so they feel free to state their views as if they are facts. Imagine the utter shock when someone actually disagrees politically. The surprise that someone would dare to use the name Reagan in reference to the airport. The shock when they hear that you have relatives who own guns (heaven forbid you own one yourself).
I’m not Republican, or conservative, but believe that many Arlingtonians are way too secure and ignorant in their tough little bubble.
