I don’t quite agree with the previous posters. I’ve seen a few guys embrace their wife’s family and forget their own. It happened with my parents. There are a lot of gaps in the story but it makes her feel better.

This sounds like it is the wife and her family. My husband's brother like that. Of course, she cheated on him and he's now alienated himself from all of us, which is sad for his kids and their mom, who didn't do anything wrong (but like this writer, wasn't the best mom but tried).

My husband's son's wife is like that. We didn't give her cash every time she demanded it (vs. we'd send gifts for the kids) so she got mad and cut us off. She also cut off her family as they stopped funding her lifestyle after she graduated college and refused to work so we don't take it personally. She was raised that way by her mom to alienate her from her Dad and step-mom and Son was raised by his mom that way so it was no surprise.

Reading that, it wasn’t hard to imagine at all why they’re estranged. And I really doubt she truly has no idea what she said or did regarding the wife’s family that offended them.

The woman said everything we need to know - “I called to ask if he really actually wants to go through with the wedding” (WTF?!), gossiping with her husband “whether the new wife wanted him all to herself now” (um yes, they are a new family now and you’re not in it unless they want you to be, which they wouldn’t since you’re a busybody narcissistic witch), didn’t bother apologizing and was just waiting for him to come rushing home with apologies.

She sounds totally awful. And that’s even if there’s nothing else except those things, which is doubtful.

I think this was a great article. When loved ones cut you off, it hurts so much
