If the kid is good looking they also can get modeling and commercial gigs in addition to skate boarding. Most professional skateboarders I know did fine...grew up
And have sales or executive jobs with skateboarding related companies

We had a friend who had a professional BMX rider. Took quite a bit of effort and going to this and that but eventually got to a decent living.

Would recommend starting a professional YT channel with demos, how-tos and 'show off' highlight reel kind of stuff. Look at the F2 Freestylers (soccer) as a model for how to build a YT channel for a sports-related theme that is appealing to marketers and whatnot.

My friend's kid did this. And later, after he'd had a child and was starting to get old, he buckled down, got a college degree, and is involved in the industry again in a different way.

A HS friend's son does this. He has sponsorships and a YouTube channel and she posts stuff about him. He lives in California and seems very happy and she is very proud. It looks pretty cool to me.

DS has decided he wants to be a professional skate boarder. He is a very unmotivated student but is quite athletic. What are his prospects?
