Every parent deals with this stuff, even if it's only behind closed doors.
It was just your turn in the barrel.

Kids do this.
Unsolicited advice: my kid used to always have meltdowns, and I realized it's because they were hungry.I started having snacks on hand when I pick up and the world is a much better place.

Why were you MORTIFIED?
young children have meltdowns for a variety of reasons. The fact that you feel you can’t show your face again says more about you than it does about your child.
Apologize and leave, redirect, move along, appear again tomorrow. It’s that easy. It’s not like you had a drunken meltdown at pick up, is it?

If other parents are judging you, they are a-holes. And who cares what a-holes think about you.
The rest of the parents are just glad it's not there kid melting down like they did last week.

Kids do this. It will pass. You will be fine. So will your kid.
And, don't judge yourself. There are only parents whose kids have had an epic meltdown, or parents whose kids are about to have an epic meltdown.

My kid used to have epic meltdowns frequently. It was awful.
He grew out of it (eventually!) Your kid will too.

My DH still talks about the time our 5 th grade daughter was in kindergarten and was splayed out on the sidewalk in front of school having a fit. So it’s not just you OP! Tomorrow is a new day

At some point everyone's kid gets overwhelmed and acts out. How you handle it is what people will judge you by.

Please tell me I am not alone! My child had an epic meltdown at PICKUP after school where all the parents were gathered. I was MORTIFIED at her behavior. I don't know if I can show my face again.
