Or you could slow down. $100 is high, but in addition to generating revenue it’s designed to be a detractor for people like you with a lead foot.

Sounds as though the other car was speeding. I've never received a ticket in that kind of situation, where someone next to me was speeding, so perhaps this is a problem with a few cameras and not all of them?

If it is true that they would send a ticket to both cars, that is a huge problem. They have an obligation to prove that your car was speeding. If the technology doesn't exist for them to do that with two cars in the picture, they shouldn't be issuing tickets to anyone.

I've already heard you can argue the camera tickets if there's another vehicle in the photo because the machine cannot accurately get the speed of one vehicle with another one in close proximity. That's what I've been told but I've never had to argue it..

I challenged a speeding ticket (I was at fault) citing another car in the picture. Adjudicator denied the challenge saying that cameras can distinguish between different car speeds in different lanes.

There is no harm/cost in trying but seems like DC feels confident in their technology though.

I just got a $100 ticket in my neighborhood for going 36mph in a 25mph. I am very careful to drive slow on the street I live on knowing this camera is there. There is another car in my 2 photos in the left lane behind me. I am in the 'slow' right lane. There are 2 photos, each with a green line. The green line is at my back bumper in both photos. The green line is in front of the other car in the first photo and then bisects the other car in the second photo. Does anyone know for certain what the green lines mean? I wonder if the other car was the one actually speeding. Any suggestions on fighting this (and know if one can still get a speedometer calibration certificate in DC) is much appreciated! My car is 13 years old so wonder if this could be a reason.
