We visited on our Ohio tour. I really liked it but my daughter just wasn’t a fan after attending a class. She said the students were not engaged, but I’m guessing it was a fluke. Either way, she didn’t apply despite my urging. She’s at Oberlin and it has been an amazing place for her so I guess all’s well that ends well.

We tacked Wooster onto the Oberlin/ Kenyon/ Denison tour and were super impressed. DS is definately applying next year.

I loved Wooster when we visited and it was high on my DS's list. He was offered significant merit aid--enough to bring the total COA down to about $31k--from Wooster with a 31 ACT and a 4.0 W GPA. FWIW, he ended up at Clark (with similar merit aid).

Wooster is one of those undiscovered treasures that has just been "discovered" by kids in this area. An excellent option for someone looking for a SLAC experience outside of the NE.

Don’t be so sure. My DS was offered $32K in merit. Stats: 35 ACT; 3.6 UW/4.3 W GPA. Good not great extracurricular. OWU gives about the same amount in merit — none of the Ohio SLACs are going to give over $35K in non-need awards.

Decided not to write one more essay to try for an additional merit scholarship.

We loved CoW when we visited. Incredible spirit there. The people really believe in what they are doing.

How dio you know she won’t get merit at Wooster?

Parts of Wooster that seem to be about the same from back in the day (my DS visited and applied this year, although doesn't really want to attend).

Senior year "IS" is a huge part of the experience. Students take on ambitious independent projects, under the supervision of a profession, related to his/her major. Hig percentage of students go on to graduate school and are successful.

Good number of international students, which enhances the community.

They appear to be more generous with merit aid (or discounts) for students they really want than they were when I attended. Of course, the college marketplace is really different too.

Local greek scene, not national sororities/fraternities. Does not dominate the school.

Nice facilities; really boring town that's just far enough away from Cleveland to make excursions a kind of event (e.g. to see a really great band once in a while) not a quick trip up and back.

yup... graduated back in the 90s. not sure how helpful that is, but was a great place for me. really made me fall in love with learning.
