If you are in VA, the paper book they use to log their hours has a list of apps you can install of phones to check on this and/or limit disable use while the car is moving. Some from the App Store and some from your cell provider. Check there and see if one works.

I told mine that if I ever saw her looking at or touching her phone - even st a traffic light - that she wouldn’t be driving the car ever again.
The phone was to remain face down on the floor. And then I did observe her driving some.
I don’t want a dead teen! Or young adult.

I’m all for software that stops texts while the car is running too.

This is really naive. If your kid wants to text while driving, never having seen Mom do it isn't going to make a difference at all. I did plenty of things I never saw my parents do.

I've been using Life360 for 5 years, and this is the first I've heard of this feature! do tell! where on the app is it exactly.

I made a point to never use mine. Kids followed my lead.

When my stepson starting driving, back in the days before smartphones, we could only verify after-the-fact. Our rule was the phone had to be in the middle storage area, out of sight, but still available in case of an emergency (I'd heard of some parents making the phone go in the backseat, but we were worried if he needed it, he wouldn't be able to get to it easily). Then on occasion I would look at our Verizon account online where we could see the times for texting. Fortunately for him, there wasn't any texting during driving. But found a LOT while in class. He got busted for that instead!

My DS is a year away from getting his license and we'll have the same rule for the middle storage area, but I'll be curious to see if there's any real-time options that folks post here.

DD has her permit and will be getting her full license this summer. She knows to not text and drive or be on the phone, but how do you KNOW they won't when you're not in the car? We haven't bought her a car yet, and when we do it will likely have bluetooth, but I'm still scared.
