The handful of boys I knew who had pierced ears when growing up in the 1990s all outgrew it and none of them were gay.
It's not something I would fight. I think pierced ears in men, while no longer controversial, has declined in popularity after a brief upswing in the 1990s. I see very few grown men with pierced ears. And not many youths either.

Not that an ear ring is any big deal but the bigger picture is knowing when to say no to these types of things. Tattoo next? motorcycle? Purple hair? Believe it or not your kids are expecting you to say no to many of these ideas. It’ll be appreciated later.
This also goes for being an adult living in your house, your still in charge with your own rules as long as he’s there.

At 15, I say anything that isn’t permanent. No tattoos or ear lobe stretching. But pierced ears, fine. Weird haircut or color, fine.

Given that my daughters had their ears pierced at age 10 or so, I can't see refusing to let my son do it. I'd pay for single holes in one ear or each ear. I wouldn't pay for or allow more significant body modifications, although ear piercings are tame and heal up easily. (I had my ears double-pierced twice, and both times I let them heal up -- you'd never know).

As far as body modifications go, this one is very tame. He can take the out for job or college interviews, etc. I wouldn’t have a problem with it at all.

Is he paying for it, and will he take care of it? Then fine. Otherwise, no. Ear pierces are nbd because you can always take the earring out. Tattoos in visible places are a bigger deal.

I would ask him to show me what kind of earrings he'd like to wear. Because if he'd like some classic pearls that would be a different talk than a diamond stud or a gold hoop.

Are you feeling uneasy because you think it is a sign he is gay? That is the only reason i can think about you and husbands uneasiness.
My answer just let him get his ears pierced. I know straight guys with earrings and gay guys. It makes no difference.

Son (15) wants to pierce his ears..I am on the fence. Seems fine to do and a silly battle.... but I am not sure and unclear about my hesitation. His reply when I asked him why was that He thinks they’d look good. Husband a bit more hesitant than me....
We have some male friends with pierced ears and it looks god..... and for some men it looks silly....
