It is in McLean. Let’s be honest, you are looking in the top neighborhood in VAand there are literally no bad parts of McLean. It really is just a matter of finding the right house for you in the area.

There are bad parts of McLean but the mavens if DCUM don’t know about them.

Very important, OP!

We love living in Potomac Hills. There are tons of families with kids (just look for basketball hoops in the street). We have an annual neighborhood block party, great trick-or-treating, cool woodsy trails to explore right from our backyards. You can walk through trails to Highlands and Lineway Park. Our cul de sac has get-togethers several times a year. We have a private list-serve to keep neighborhood communication easy. Love it here!!

Potomac Hills is just starting to have new builds - they are not immune. Don’t buy there to avoid new builds.

The original houses often sell for $900K to $1M. That's the range for a tear down in parts of McLean that are in greater demand either because they are closer to the center of McLean and Metro (for example, West McLean and Salona Village) or are closer to DC (such as Franklin Park). Mixed families and older people, as far as I know. The people are *really* nice, and the neighborhood skews more liberal than conservative. Plus, there are sidewalks and a gorgeous new pool. What else do you need to know, OP?

There are plenty of neighborhoods with tons of kids, but the kids are booked at lessons, etc. What I am saying is there could be a million children your DC's age, but absolutely zero guarantee that they will be available to play with your DC. In fact, in the fancier neighborhoods, it is almost a guarantee that the kids are not available to play because of their private school schedules or lessons. I have found this much less so in PH.

It is a great place to raise kids. It is always a dice roll with finding a street with similarly ages kids that get along with each other, but there are plenty of neighbors in the neighborhood and in the surrounding neighborhoods too. Plus, in the summer when the kids are older they can walk to Highlands pool by themselves or walk over to Linway Terrace park to play. Nice access to creek walking over by the pool. Close to the ES, further to MS and HS.

Can anyone tell me about Potomac Hills in Mclean? It seems like the perfect location for us - one of us is going north to Reston and the other is going downtown, but because of the GW parkway exit onto Kirby Road, the commute is actually shorter than some places closer in. What is the area like? Any chance the people are friendly and kids play with other kids?
