Many families I know liked Cap City for lower grades - wished for something else for middle school. They might not state have a banner on them that they says they are doing the lottery. But when you talk to them one on one they are.

Most people in our area (Takoma) go private, lottery for Shepherd to get into Deal/Wilson, or move across the street to Takoma Park, a few DCI families. Nobody goes to TEC or Coolidge, and New North and college for all at Coolidge are not particularly inspiring at this point.

We plan to send our kids to MacFarland. We have our kids in a school that feeds directly to MacFarland and has been a major feeder due to the dual language connection. The kids at MacFarland are our kids’ siblings, friends, and peers. Management and staff are people I like. I hope everyone finds something that suits them well.

Are these charters school also good in elementary and middle grade? I don’t remember seeing those names on people lottery list they post here, or do they get better in the upper grades?

There aren't a lot of people who post here with 5th or 6th grade lottery lists.

The kids that age I know go to the ECs (which won’t be an option for you), Paul, LAMB, and DCI. When we get there, we’ll try for Latin, BASIS, Cap City, and Haynes too, but I’ll consider MacFarland, and expect to go with New North. It’s still a few years away but right now I’d be happy with any.

We have younger children but are hoping New North will work out. Otherwise the charters PP listed, likely.
