My understanding re the Deal aftercare is very few kids go and it is really expensive.

My 8th grader walks home from Deal every day. When she was in 6th she walked to the Tenleytown library and I met her there.

I will have a 6th grader again next year and I plan to have her walk home and I will be home about 4/4:15 every day.

No, I know roughly the time it takes for DS to get home by bus and call me on our home phone (he doesn’t have a cell phone). I get home usually 15 minutes after he walks in.

There are a lot of after school activities including sports. They can also stay in the library for one hour after school. But yes, most just leave - home, public library, etc.

There are after school clubs and sports, but that will not fill every day for your child. I think they still have a YMCA program for Deal kids though. Otherwise, get comfortable with your little one growing up, and go get that latch key made.

Your kid could easily take the bus down to Jelleff. My daughter is a 7th grader at Hardy and has been going there after school. It’s free and the staff is wonderful.

Well, they're old enough to go home.

With no more aftercare next year where do sixth graders go after school with working parents?
