If they were of a different ethnic group, they may have not been from the area and that's why they asked if you live around there. They may have had another question they were going to ask about something they were trying to find.

Ok fine. You asked, you got answered. It’s not weird. Some women said hi to your cute kid and tried to have a conversation with you. Not weird. Then they stayed in the store shopping, as did you. Not weird. Then they got into a car where their husband/boyfriend/son/whatever was waiting because he didn’t feel like being bored senseless in Target while the women window shopped for 30 min. Not weird. They were of a different ethnic group than you. Not weird. You making a thing of it/acting like it was weird? That’s weird.

Why? On one hand I agree with you. On the other, I’m not usually spooked and this creeped me out. I don’t think immediately asking if we live nearby is a typical question.
Maybe she has a kid? Her daughter has a kid? She wants to set up a playdate or ask about the area. I'm not an expert, but I believe human trafficking targets at risk kids/women. This doesn't mean it won't happen to you, I just think it's someone hanging around Target wanting to kidnap your kid from you and more someone who sees a kid wandering alone at the mall with inattentive parents and grabs them.

It’s not to fuel anxiety. I’m asking to see if people agree this was weird. It doesn’t hurt to have people be aware of people do agree this is weird.

I believe the Target and Costco sex trafficking and kidnapping Facebook posts turned out to be a hoax, but I admit my spidey senses were tingling his week:
At Fairfax Target midweek alone with my 1.5 year old. In the back section of the store, two women suddenly appeared and the younger said “Helllllooo!” and put her face in my son’s and asked,”How old?” I told her but wasn’t overly friendly. She immediately asked, “Do you live near here?” I mumble something and peeled out of there, closer to the main part of the store I hear the two women talking to each other and I saw them walking by the checkout aisles 15 min later when I was checking out, and I noticed some men and a loitering car. They all seemed to be of the same ethnic group and speaking the language which I couldn’t quite place as I was busy getting the heck out of there.
Would you find this suspicious? She had no kids with her, I’d have felt differently had she had a toddler with her.
